The Benefits of the Grapefruit!

It is so important to eat a balanced diet, and fruit is an essential part of that balance. There are so many types of fruit with incredible health benefits and we thought we would focus on one of our favorite fruits AND the hottest color for summer: GRAPEFRUIT!

There are many reasons to stock up on grapefruit this season. The grapefruit is high in vitamin C which helps to strengthen your immune system. Adding Vitamin C to your diet can reduce the severity of cold symptoms acting like an all natural antihistamine! According to Medical Daily, half a grapefruit offers 78% of your recommended daily intake of Vitamin C.

The grapefruit also helps with boosting your metabolism. In 2006, the Journal of Medicinal Food conducted a study where they found that people who ate half a grapefruit before each meal, without making any other dietary changes, lost an average of 3 and a half pounds over 12 weeks. One of the reasons for this was because the fiber in Grapefruit helps keep you full longer because it is harder to digest.

Are you inspired to eat Grapefruit but find it to be a bit too tart? Well,  add a little “sugar.” It is so tempting to grab that sugar from your baking cabinet to sprinkle all over your tart Grapefruit! Truvia is an awesome substitute as it is an all natural, zero calorie sweetener coming from the Stevia leaf.  Add a sprinkle of Truvia to soften the tartness of your grapefruit right up :)!
